The Newton – Al-Farabi project is supported by The British Council. Its main partners are Aberystwyth University (AU), The Institute of Geography, Almaty (IoG), KNTU, IoFaF, IFAS, AFU. The German-Kazakh University (GKU) is the lead partner on international and national water law and policies, including the anticipated effects of climate change and its implementation to better protect communities from water pollution and environmental degradation.
This Institutional Links collaborative project aims to find sustainable solutions to these pressing societal problems by developing an evidence-based, integrated water resource management strategy for the region. It will adopt a multi-disciplinary approach incorporating fluvial geomorphology, climatology, forestry and ecology, hydrology, flood risk management, water quality assessments, and international law and policy. The latter will ensure that data from research is transformed into information that can be used to assess and mitigate water resources problems.
The first meeting of the Newton-Al-Farabi project took place on the 23rd and 24th of June, 2015 in the Kazakh-German University, Almaty, Kazakhstan.
